Water main replacement project on Windsor and Church Streets
Aug 06, 2023
Aqua plans to replace 5,714 linear feet of water main along Windsor and Church streets in Marion, according to a press release issued by the company on Wednesday. The project is scheduled to begin on Monday and be complete by the end of the year, company officials said.
“Some of the pipe we’re replacing is more than a hundred years old,” said Aqua Ohio’s Area Manager Scott Ballenger. “That's a long time for anything to be in service. This project will replace old cast iron pipes with new ductile iron pipe that is stronger, lighter and more corrosion resistant. Hopefully, this new main will give us just as many years of trouble-free service.”
Key elements of the project include:
Church and Windsor streets will be closed to through traffic, but open to residents. On-street parking will be restricted in areas where the contractor is actively working. Water service will be maintained throughout construction. However, customers receiving new service lines will experience short-term interruptions while their services are connected to the new main near the end of the project. Those customers will be notified by Aqua in advance of the planned interruptions.
Underground Utilities Inc. of Monroeville, Ohio, was selected to perform the work and the budget for this project is $2,142,000. Ballenger said the company expects to spend more than $65 million across Aqua’s 40 Ohio systems in 2023, approximately $8.5 million of that will be invested in the Marion area.
